Members Approve New Contract
The NYU Adjuncts Union is pleased to announce our new contract was ratified by members with a vote of 1533 to 20 — a 99 percent approval.
The contract pays significant raises to all adjuncts over the next six years. It introduces administrative pay for work done outside the classroom, offers health insurance subsidies to all adjuncts starting in 2024, and delivers a minimum $2,000 COVID bonus for work done during the pandemic. The contract was negotiated over 26 sessions across seven months by members of the NYU Bargaining Committee, who worked tirelessly to represent the issues, concerns, and teaching experiences of 3400 adjuncts. The Bargaining Committee was supported by an Organizing Committee that led outreach efforts, organizers Brian Allen and Annie Levin, our enterprising intern Alex Chan, and UAW Sub-Regional Director Hyacinth Blanchard.
Ultimately the negotiations were fueled by our members, who spoke out, met with colleagues, marched, rallied, voted, postered, phoned, emailed, trained, and finally approved this contract with a resounding vote.
We know many of you still have questions about this contract, especially when you will receive back pay, administrative pay, and all the other benefits and protections in store. We are already communicating with NYU about these questions — mostly about when we’ll get paid — and will update you as soon as possible, hopefully right after the holiday. In the meantime, please take a look at this timeline.
There is much to celebrate as we roll into our Thanksgiving break, and we hope you will find the weekend restful and restorative. After you return, we humbly ask you to show solidarity with Part-Time Faculty at the New School, who are currently out on strike.
