Bargaining Update: May 13th, 2022

We’ve held two bargaining sessions with NYU since our last update. We started with proposals that acknowledge and seek compensation for adjunct work during the pandemic. We moved on to proposals that protect adjuncts in the classroom. And soon we’ll be submitting proposals that address our benefits and reappointment rights.

So far NYU has rejected multiple proposals outright and in their responses agreed to mostly codify rights we already have. The university has yet to make any proposals of their own and have simply responded to our proposals. This reactive approach is indicative of NYU’s efforts to keep things as they are versus our proactive efforts to improve the lives and working conditions of all adjuncts.

While you will continue to hear from us throughout this process, over the summer we will also bring back our Contract Conversations series. In the meantime, we could use your help. We need you to get involved in organizing every adjunct at NYU. So please join us in winning a fair contract by coming to our tabling event outside of Grad Alley near Washington Square Park on Tuesday, May 17, from 4 to 8PM. Look for our table near Bobst Library on the Washington Square Park campus.

We are also excited to share our collective voice with NYU and the public with the release of the collective action letter! Over 1050 adjuncts have signed the letter emphasizing the essential role of adjuncts at NYU and our intention to bargain for major improvements to our contract. Please sign on if you haven’t already done so.

Progress is possible with your help, support, and actions, but most importantly, through your voice. Your voice will be heard by NYU Deans and NYU students. Speak up and be heard, together with your union!

In Solidarity,

Your NYU Bargaining Committee
