On Monday the union filed an unfair labor practice charge against NYU with the National Labor Relations Board. The charge is a reaction to a new member of NYU’s bargaining team who joined a closed meeting of ours without properly identifying herself. This process has just begun, and we will report more on this charge in the future.
Our bargaining continues. To date, we have signed 14 tentative agreements with the university, including two that keep our current contract in force through the end of October. These agreements secure important components of our next contract.
NYU continues to defend the status quo. On the matters most important to adjunct faculty – compensation, health insurance, pay for additional work, and reappointment rights – the university has either barely moved or is not making the kinds of major changes required to meet our proposals even halfway.
The Bargaining Committee’s work has been backed by dozens of members who have joined our bargaining sessions in person or via Zoom. Some have offered powerful testimony to emphasize our demands, and others have attended to show support. Meanwhile our strike authorization vote continues. Please show your support and vote “Yes” now. You are eligible to vote if you are paying dues and teaching in the current semester. If you have not received a ballot, please send your 2022-2023 appointment letter to nyu_organizer@actuaw.org. If you are a newly hired adjunct please complete your membership card and send it to mail@actuaw.org with a cc to nyu_organizer@actuaw.org, along with any 2022-2023 appointment letter.
